Clouds and mild temperatures are in the forecast for the Baltimore area Wednesday, with highs near 60 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

Forecasters expect it could be the warmest day of the month, particularly with clouds and fog clearing more quickly than expected by mid-morning, according to a forecast discussion from the weather service's Baltimore/Washington forecast office. The month's high so far was 59 degrees on Feb. 15.

A chance of showers was expected to linger into the morning after overnight rains. After that, skies were expected to remain overcast with 5-10 mph breezes.

Temperatures were expected to rise from around 40 degrees in the morning to the upper 50s in the afternoon. Partly cloudy skies and a temperature of 46 degrees was reported at Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport at 11 a.m.

Showers could return Thursday, with highs forecast around 50 degrees and lows in the upper 30s. Breezier conditions are expected Thursday into the weekend, with 15-20 mph winds.

Temperatures Friday are expected between the upper 20s and upper 40s.
