Flooding again closes streets during morning commute in Annapolis

Flooding downtown has forced the closure of three streets and they will remain closed for much of the morning commute, Annapolis police said.

Compromise, Dock and Newman streets were under water this morning because of higher than normal tides, police said. Those three streets were flooded and closed for parts of Monday, also.

Here are this morning’s closures:

  • Compromise Street is closed between Memorial Circle and St. Mary’s Street.
  • Eastport traffic cannot reach downtown. Downtown traffic can reach Eastport by using Duke of Gloucester Street.
  • Dock Street is closed at Randall Street.
  • Newman Street is closed at Duke of Gloucester Street because of flooding at Newman and Compromise streets.

In addition to high water, commuters also had to deal with fog this morning around the region.

The closures could cause delays in other parts of Annapolis. Police are urging drivers to use alternate routes.

Today’s forecast from the National Weather Service calls for a 60 percent chance of rain with possible fog. Highs are expected to be in the low 80s. Overnight and into Wednesday there is a 30 percent chance of rain.

The rain Annapolis is seeing now is ahead of Hurricane Florence, which is expected to make landfall in North Carolina late Thursday into Friday.
