A well-known Radford resident with passion for local sports is being remembered.
Robert Allen Hall, Jr., better known as "Big Al",  passed away on Tuesday after a long battle with diabetes.
The 60 year old was often found on the sidelines of Radford High School Football games or in the stands.
He served as a scorekeeper for various sporting events.
Big Al helped establish the Radford High School Sports Hall of Fame in 2008 and was inducted in 2010.
Besides raising money for local athletes, he also solicited funds for fireworks each year and was presented with a key to the City of Radford for his love of the community.

"Big Al was a unique individual.  He was all about helping somebody else, anybody that was in trouble whether it be financial or physical trouble.  He was out collecting money for them and things like that.  Some of the things he accomplished were amazing," said Gary Harmon, friend of Big Al and former Radford City Police Chief.

A community celebration and memorial service for Big Al is being planned at Radford High School Bobcat Gymnasium for late March.
