Northbound traffic on Interstate 81 in Smyth County came to a halt this afternoon as crews battled a truck fire.

Around 2:30 this afternoon, the Marion Volunteer Fire Department responded to a truck fire in the interstate construction zone near Exit 45.

Crews arriving on scene found a Ford F250 pickup owned by TMS Contracting on the shoulder.

Crews, with the assistance of Virginia State Police, stopped all northbound traffic while firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze.

The truck was a total loss.  No one was injured.Traffic was reopened about twenty minutes later.

The nature of the fire was undetermined, but most likely electrical.
