Former 5th District Congressman Tom Perriello says he will not run for Virginia Governor.

Perriello made the announcement in a statement posted on the Democratic blog Blue Virginia. Click here to see the statement.

"I do not feel called to serve in elected office at this time, but I do not need to have my name on the ballot to be part of the fight," Perriello wrote.

Perriello went on to support Terry McAuliffe in the statement. Perriello lost his re-election bid to the 5th District seat in 2010 to Republican Robert Hurt.

Governor Bob McDonnell's term expires in 2013, and he is not eligible for re-election.

Perriello is now working as president and CEO of the Center for American Progress Action.
