Roanoke City police say there will be additional police present for Saturday's Blue Ridge Marathon.
Marathon organizers and police met Monday afternoon following the explosions at the Boston Marathon. City police spokeswoman Aisha Johnson said there will be increased numbers of officers during Saturday's race that starts and ends in downtown Roanoke. City police are also working with Roanoke Fire-EMS and Virginia State Police to secure additional resources, if necessary.
Johnson said the decision was a direct result of Monday's explosions in Boston.
