UPDATE Tuesday 11:00 a.m.: A Pembroke man has been charged with shooting another man in the face Monday.

Walter Lee Jones Jr. is being held at the New River Valley Regional Jail without bond.

The shooting happened around 5:30 p.m. Monday.

Jones has been charged with two felonies -- attempted murder and the use of a firearm in commission of a felony.

The victim was flown to Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

On December 26, 2011 shortly after 5:30 p.m. an emergency call came into the Giles
County Sheriff's Office Dispatch. The caller stated that a man had been shot at a
residence on Smith Street in Pemboke.

The victim Charles Bee Garvin was shot in the face and was flown to the Roanoke
Memorial Hospital Trauma Center by Lifeguard.

The suspect Walter Lee Jones Jr. 46 of Pembroke later surrendered to Law
At this time Jones is being held at the New River Valley Regional Jail with no bond
on two felony charges, Attempted Murder, and use of a Firearm in commission of a

Agencies responding to the incident were: Giles County Sheriff's Office, Pembroke
P.D, Pearisburg P.D, Narrows P.D, and the Virginia State Police.

The incident is still under investigation.


A man is in custody following a possible shooting at a home in Giles County.

It happened Monday afternoon at a home on Smith Street.

That's in Pembroke, right off of Route 460.

Authorities aren't saying much else, but confirmed one person was airlifted to a Roanoke hospital.
