MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Va.—You can expect more delays on southbound Interstate 81.
A rockslide forced the Virginia Department of Transporation to close southbound lanes in Montgomery County until around 9 this morning.
The construction is all part of the continuing work to add truck climbing lanes north of Christiansburg.
The rock slope is said to still be unstable and the repairs are not yet complete.
"Our geo-technical experts have been at the location, taking measurements. They're looking at the slope, trying to figure out how it can be taken down safely," said Virginia Department of Transportation spokesman, Jason Bond.
However, the major construction contractors have left the site, so getting them back for possibly more blasting could be challening.
