Hundreds of people walked through Wasena Park Sunday afternoon, all to raise awareness about the importance of early detection for kidney disease and the importance of organ donations.
Walkers of all ages registered to walk one mile at Wasena Park. They're hoping these efforts will get them closer towards the detection and prevention of kidney disease.
Laura Boone helped organize the event and she says the walk keeps patients hopeful they'll find a donor soon. "Some participants were on dialysis just last year. It’s nice to see some of them come back this year with a transplant," said Boone.
All of the money raised will fund different programs that help fight kidney disease.
Free screenings are made available to both the insured and the uninsured.
