U.S. District Judge John Roll was scheduled to judge a Moot Court competition at Liberty University School of Law in March.

In a release from LU, law school dean Mathew Staver said "this makes the tragedy hit home."

Liberty holds two Moot Court competitions each year, which feature student teams arguing in front of a nine-judge panel inside a replica of the US Supreme Courtroom.

“We try to get a variety of judges from around the nation who are some of the top judges in both state and federal courts,” said Staver. “Judge Roll was certainly one of the judges that fit our criteria.”

Other judges scheduled to participate in the Moot Court are Judge Robert Newsom, District Judge for Hopkins County, Texas; Judge Steven Agee, Fourth Circuit; Judge Keith Kautz, Eighth Judicial District Wyoming; Judge Charles Strauss, Circuit Court, Pittsylvania County; Judge Rossie Alston, Virginia Court of Appeals; and Judge Frederick Rockwell, Circuit Court, Chesterfield County, Va.
