KANSAS CITY, MO—The holiday season means an increase in the number of drunk drivers out on the roads, and while metro police departments are always on the lookout for impaired drivers, police in Kansas City, Missouri, are taking it one step further to keep the roads safe.
KCPD officers this week went looking for multiple DWI offenders before they get behind the wheel, picking up persistent offenders with outstanding warrants.
Officers picked up more than 50 suspects and cleared more than 100 warrants in the four-day operation.
Sgt. Danny Graves of the Kansas City Missouri Police Department says that thanks to the arrests, officers may have spared someone a life-changing knock on at the door.
"Nobody likes to notify a family that a family members been killed in a car crash, especially around the holiday season," said Sgt. Graves.
The anti-drunk driving efforts will continue over the weekend, with an increased KCPD presence on the road and DUI checkpoints.
