Time to renew or get shopper parking permits

Shopper Parking Permit for 2012-14 are available, the city manager's office said.

Permits cost $80 for the first two shopper permits and $150 for the third and fourth permit.

From the website, residents can purchase parking permits online or by mail by downloading a PDF version of the information packet and application.

Chamber hosts 'To Catch a Thief' workshop

The Laguna Beach Chamber of Commerce will host its Business Breakfast Series Workshop, "To Catch a Thief," featuring Det. Zac Martinez of the Laguna Beach Police Department from 9 to 11 a.m. June 29 at the Susi Q Community Center, 380 Third St.

Members are $15 per person. Nonmembers are $25 per person. Both include continental breakfast.

Friends of Library announces poetry winners

The Friends of the Laguna Beach Library honored the winners of the Laguna Beach Library's 14th annual Poetry Contest, according to a news release.

The poems have been published the in the library's annual booklet, which is available at the library, and the winners each received a gift card to Laguna Beach Books.

Winners were: Shane Dhillon, Jane Hilary, James Long, Grant Nathanson, Mary McManus, Jen Donnell, Richard Linder, Kate Jeffers (with her mother), Nick Jeffers, Sarah Wong, Christina Veski, Jillian Long, Clara Becker, Sydney Pardo, Caroline Grace, Sophia Haslett, Morgan Jenkins, Ryan Jenkins, Laura Pusey, Elizabeth Yu and Tony Zeng.

Art supplies for Haiti children needed

Laguna Beach resident Fabiola Kinder is collecting gently used art supplies to handout to children while she is in Haiti.

"These can help keep Haitian tent village kids occupied and away from mischief during the summer," Kinder said in a news release."Donations for purchasing healthful snacks and sports balls are also welcomed."

For more information, call Kinder at (949) 494-8561. Checks can be written out to Creatis, a nonprofit art school in Haiti. Donations can be dropped off in collection boxes at the Sawdust Festival and Festival of Arts.
