The Harbor Springs Area Chamber of Commerce seeks nominations for this year's Harbor Heroes awards, as well as for the Entrepreneur of the Year Award.
"This is the community's way to say, 'Thank you,'" Scott Herceg, Harbor Springs Area Chamber of Commerce executive director, said of the annual awards event. "There are a lot of people doing a lot of good things that a lot of times go unnoticed. ... Events like this are a way for those people to get the recognition they deserve."
For 17 years the Harbor Heroes awards event has recognized exceptional individuals and businesses for their contributions to the community. The awards event is open to the public and all are encouraged to participate and attend, according to information on the Harbor Springs Area Chamber of Commerce website.
Additionally, the Entrepreneur of the Year Award, coordinated by the Entrepreneur Club of Emmet County and sponsored by the Bank of Northern Michigan, will honor an entrepreneur working to enhance the local economy through business growth, according to a chamber email newsletter. Businesses may nominate themselves for the award and nominees will be asked to complete an application form. A panel of judges will then review the applications and select a winner.
With the exception of the Chamber Volunteer of the Year Award, nominees need not have any chamber affiliations, Herceg said.
Herceg said the chamber has received only a handful on nominations for the awards so far.
"If (your) neighbor is an amazing person, tell us about them," he urged. "This event relies on those nominations to make it a success."
Nominations for the awards will be accepted in person, by mail, phone, fax or email through Friday, Oct. 14, Herceg said.
Winners will be recognized at the 17th annual Harbor Heroes community awards dinner, to take place from 6-9 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 26, at Birchwood Farms Golf & Country Club, according to the newsletter. Tickets for the dinner are now available for $40 per person or $280 for a table of eight.

Nominations may be sent to Harbor Springs Area Chamber of Commerce, 368 East Main St., Harbor Springs, Mich. 49740, firstname.lastname@example.org or faxed to (231) 526-5593.
