Pick a color honorable mention

Honorable mention for this week's Reader Sunshots series "Pick a Color" goes
to Kelley Ray for “The Colors of <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="PLGEO00000089" title="Kenya" href="/topic/international/kenya-PLGEO00000089.topic">Kenya</a>.” Ray took this picture of a Kenyan woman
displaying her textiles in an area near Lake Nakura in the Rift Valley. Here is a
critique by Robert K. Hamilton, The Baltimore Sun’s director of photography:
"The rich and vibrant colors in this photo make it stand out from the pack. Also,
the photographer did a nice job in composing the image so as to keep the
merchant from being overpowered by the many colors in the photo."

The winner of this week's Reader SunShots theme "Red" is Marian Owens Clatterbaugh with her photo, "Cordelia in the Sun." "The little girl in the photo is Cordelia Justice," Clatterbaugh writes. "I used a Canon PowerShot S3 IS to take this candid shot in a hotel courtyard while waiting between shoots for an independent film. I was struck by how the sunlight spotlighted Cordelia's red hair and made for such a dramatic image." Photo editor Jerry Jackson comments, "With its chiaroscuro lighting, this photo could almost be mistaken for a painting. Proper exposure is key in such a high contrast situation. The camera did a great job holding detail in the white dress, even into the shadows.
