Reflections winner

The winner of this week's Reader SunShots series "Reflections" is John Maloney for his picture of a wood duck taken at the National Zoo in Washington DC. The photo was taken with a Sony A65 with a telephoto zoom lens. Here is a critique by director of photography Robert Hamilton: "The contrast in colors really made this picture pop and the reflections in the water were like no other picture in the contest. It seemed more like a painting than a photograph, a nice surprise."

Automobiles winner

The winner for this week's SunShots series "Automobiles" is Matthew Tompkins for a humorous photo of his wife Christina and 3-year-old son Nicholas as they appear to be holding up a Lamborghini, shot at the company museum in Italy. Giving credit where it is due, Christina actually staged the photo for her husband to take with her Canon Rebel T2i camera. Here is a critique from Baltimore Sun director of photography Robert Hamilton: "Funny and imaginative pictures are always a pleasant surprise. When I came up with the category, there's no way I could have imagined something like this. This would have been a total home run if it had been just the 3-year-old holding up the car. He did a great acting job for the picture."
