Arrests in Baltimore for illegal guns often lead to dropped charges or little jail time

Receiving ashes

Kersha Grell, 22, from Baltimore receives ashes from Altar Server, John Patterson at the Basilica of the Assumption at the 7:30am mass. Ashes mark the beginning of the forty-day Lenten season which ends on Easter. Ashes are made from burnt palms from the prior year's Palm Sunday. The ashes are a reminder that we are dust and unto dust we shall return. They are also a reminder that from death, there is life, explains Rev. Msgr. Valenzano.
