The Maryland State Archives is becoming overcrowded. This warehouse at 2615 Mathews St. houses archival material. THIS PICTURE: Edward C. Schoeberlein, , Ph.D., Deputy Archivist, City of Baltimore, looks at one of the Operating Room Books from Provident Hospital and Free Dispensary. Provident Hospital opened in 1894; it was controlled by African Americans and served the African American population.
