First Bull Run

This drawing shows the Union army's right flank beginning to give way under the Confederate counterattack at Henry House Hill on July 21, 1861, during the First Battle of Manassas, Va., or First Bull Run as it was called in the North. The retreat became a panicky rout as the road became obstructed by civilian observers from Washington and withdrawing army wagons.
