Guatemalan civil war anniversary
An indigenous man holds a candle during a Mayan ritual to remember the 31st anniversary of the assault by security forces on the Spanish embassy during the 1960-96 civil war in Guatemala, in Guatemala City. On January 31, 1980 security forces stormed the embassy premises, which were peacefully occupied by scores of opponents, setting it on fire and killing 37 people, among diplomats, workers and peasants, being one of them union leader Vicente Manchu, father of Nobel Peace Prize Rigoberta Menchu.
