The news: Baltimore City Council President Bernard C. "Jack" Young dropped his earlier support for the Baltimore Grand Prix and says the city should stop trying to find a new operator to run the race. Its efforts should be focused on services for youth instead, he says. Our take: We disagree. First of all, the Grand Prix and better services for youth are not mutually exclusive. Secondly, the city has already sunk millions into the Grand Prix. The only way we get our investment back is if the race runs for several more years. That said, City Hall is flunking the transparency test in its effort to find new race management.
