Westboro's horrific claim about Newtown

The spokeswoman for the fanatic Westboro Baptist Church, Shirley Phelps-Roper, recently made the following comments:

"Connecticut has same-sex marriage, God sent the shooter into Newtown."

To equate the Newtown tragedy with same-sex marriage is one of the most horrendous statements a so-called Christian could utter.

There are but a few misguided, ignorant folks who adhere to the preachings/beliefs of the Westboro church. These peoples' minds are stir-fried due to some form of mindwashing. We are living in an era where the shock value meter is almost constantly in the red zone. To that point, Westboro yearns constantly for media exposure.

When I learn of another Westover protest, I steel myself for what I know will be a statement from them that borders on the outrageous. We simply have to ignore them. The more press sects like this receive, the more fuel they get for name recognition. I feel especially terrible for the parents, relatives, and friends of the victims of various incidents Westboro has chosen to dip its filthy hands into. I'm certain that from their perspective, it would be tough as nails to ignore these creeps.

In other countries this group of feeble-minded "wanna-change-the-world" warped followers would have been disassembled or vanquished by now.

As we forge ahead in a democratic society, we have learned The Second Amendment is simultaneously our scabbard and scourge.

Pointing out the WBC's "horrific claims" is like correcting Honey-Boo-Boo's grammar, it's probably not something we need to bother doing on an ongoing basis, let's just assume it's going to be bad until they surprise us.

You'd be surprised how many people who claim to have "nothing against gay people" secretly--and not so secretly--agree with Shirley Phelps-Roper's pronouncement.
