Santa's gifts to seniors

Thanks to columnist Susan Reimer, The Sun and all the readers who responded to Ms. Reimer's request to support Home Instead Senior Care's "Be A Santa to a Senior" program ("At kids' favorite time of year, let's not forget the elderly," Dec. 3).

This was the program's ninth year, and we far exceeded our expectations because of the local community's response.

Home Instead Senior Care receives the names of seniors in need from local offices on aging and reaches out to the community for donations that it turns into gifts. This year we received 600 names of needy seniors in response to Ms. Reimer's article, and we were able to help an additional 200 seniors.

Thanks to the great people of our community who sent in checks ranging from $5 to $500. Thanks for bringing smiles to the faces of seniors this holiday season. And from the bottom of my heart, thanks for helping us make this program such a huge success and for bringing joy to so many.
