Members of the House of Representatives are elected to their positions based on many factors, often dealing with issues from their own district and rarely because of a national issue. Members of the Senate are usually chosen due to state and sometimes national issues. So to hear House Speaker Paul Ryan and other Republicans say “we were sent here to cut taxes” or “to build a wall” or “to repeal and replace Obamacare” is just nonsense.
President Donald Trump was elected for one reason and one reason only: He was not Hillary Clinton. He was given no mandate for anything.
Let me just add that with his despicable habit of making fun of opponents by calling them names, including members of his own party, while sucking up to people such as Russian President Vladimir Putin and Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte.
One might well ask in the words of Joseph Welch during the Army-McCarthy hearings of 1954: “At long last sir, have you no sense of decency?”
