Medicaid rules should not discourage drug addiction treatment

I agree with Medicaid reimbursement to substance abuse patients served by students, especially since they are reimbursed when working with mentally ill patients (“Md. students on opioid epidemic: We just want to help,” Jan. 26).

The majority of patients with substance abuse problems have a dual diagnosis with mental health issue for which they are self medicating. Medicaid is splitting hairs on reimbursement as the country faces an opioid crisis at every demographic level and in every state. The saying, “Penny wise, pound foolish,” comes to mind.
