I was appalled by the editorial suggesting judges should participate in the governor's dog and pony show on city crime (“Judges should attend Gov. Hogan’s crime meeting, along with the public,” Aug. 25). Before you start making impertinent demands that they explain their sentencing decisions on illegal gun possession, it would be a good thing if you first actually showed some connection between suspended sentences and subsequent gun violence.
The onus is on you as the ones suggesting they ought to curtail other people's liberty for reasons that do not demonstrably relate to the facts of those people's cases. If you refuse to justify your demand with evidence, it appears you are just engaging in the hysterical stereotyping that was so popular 25 years ago. Your readers deserve better.
