On the first day of shooting training in the Army, we were introduced to the M-16. The training specialist told us that the M-16 was designed for one purpose — to kill people.
It's a lousy hunting rifle as it tears into the victim. The plastic stock wasn't good for hitting, and the design didn't even work well for parades. It was a one purpose weapon, but it (and the civilian AR-15 and new version, the M-4) was very good at that one goal (“Maryland House of Delegates candidates faces criticism for planned raffle of AR-15,” Feb. 16).
