Putin outfoxes Obama again

Once again President Vladimir Putin of Russia has outmaneuvered our president by arranging essentially a hands off policy for the U.S. while Russia continues to supply Syrian President Bashar Assad with sophisticated weaponry ("Putin's dubious offer," Sept. 11). The chemical arsenal of Syria has not proven a key factor in Syrian aggression against rebel forces, instead being a media fiasco.

With the removal of chemical weapons, if that actually occurs, Russia will be able to send its ships loaded with weaponry to Mr. Assad while theoretically removing any chemical weapons that Mr. Assad is willing to release. Our allies in the region that expected and were promised some response to Syrian aggression will not only be disappointed but will realize that President Barack Obama's promises are meaningless. Score one for Messrs. Putin and Assad.
