Putin is a thug, get used to it [Letter]

I almost thought your editorial on Russian President Putin and Ukraine was a joke ("Putin on the hot seat," July 21).

Then I realized you think that Mr. Putin is something more than a KGB thug. Europe will not do anything, and President Barack Obama is in the process of eviscerating our military.

He would be doing that faster, but his golf, fundraising and vacations are slowing down his quest to make the U.S. a Third World country.

Get a grip on reality.

Lyle Rescott, Marriottsville

Citing the American "fracking revolution" as a significant factor in Russia's economic crisis, writers Jim Rosapepe and Sheilah Kast go a bit overboard in linking it with the comparative success of capitalism and democracy ("How dangerous is Russia?" Dec. 22).
