T. Rowe Price needs a few good women

The Board of Directors ofT. Rowe Price Group, Inc, a company worth over $16 billion, have given us investors the opportunity to vote for or against only one woman to join their Board of Directors at their annual meeting on April 17.

Worse, there is only one woman on the entire board, and not one woman is an executive officer. What man of moral merit or social integrity, an IQ greater than a prokaryote, or a scintilla of political consciousness would yield his name to a proxy, much less a board, on which there was such a poor gender ratio? What manager of a mutual fund or pension fund or bank or trust or foundation or school or church would perpetuate this social horror by voting for these chauvinists either? None of the guys in this citadel of gynephobia got my vote. Each one of them flunks the most elemental of moral test, the test of fairness. The whole board is complicit in presenting this international insult to the printed proxy. This company needs help.

If you know a clear thinking woman of distinguished attainment in her field, please recommend her to the next nominating director. Don't you think if we had more great women on our corporate boards we would have fewer nightmares like AIG, CitiGroup, Enron, General Motors, Lehman Bros., etc.?

One of the eight Millennium Development Goals of our United Nations is to "Promote gender equality and empower women." This company would probably not agree with the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) either. CEDAW has been ratified by more than 180 countries on our planet. The only hold outs are: Iran, Nauru, Palau, Somalia, Sudan, Tonga and our U.S.A.

On this metric, this company embarrasses its employees, brings a shame to its industry, presents another blot on the escutcheon of corporate America, and a nightmare to the world. Certainly, we can encourage this company to do a better job of corporate governance in the coming year.
