There is no 'right' of pit bull ownership

Why do some Americans think that they have a right to endanger their neighbors' health and lives by owning a pit bull ("Dog owners say ban won't make them shed pit bulls," Sept. 17)? I do not know the lady with the pit bull, but I have a strong feeling that she also refuses to give up her right to smoke cigarettes.

In response to the editorial "Man's best friend" (Oct. 13), I am disappointed that The Baltimore Sun turned people's reactions to reported abuse into a competition as to which victims of violent crimes are more worthy of sympathy or outrage. Violence is violence, and none of it is good for...

Tougher minimum sentences needed for animal cruelty [Letter]

I was disturbed on multiple levels after reading Dan Rodricks' recent article, "Two years after Maryland court ruling, pit bulls on attack" (April 26). Not only does Mr. Rodricks feed into anti-pit bull hysteria for the sake of sensationalizing a hot-button issue, but his piece can hardly be...

  • The deadly menace of pit bulls [Letter]

I became friends with the Solesky family after I saw first-hand the aftermath of a pit bull attack on my dog ("Singling out pit bulls is unfair," Jan. 6). As a trauma nurse, I saw that the wounds inflicted by pit bulls were kill wounds — perforated carotid, brachial, femoral arteries,...
