Pet finches at retirement home must be treated humanely

Regarding your story about PETA urging a Cockeysville retirement home to allow its pet finches to leave their cage, animals are not on the earth to serve people ("Let birds spread wings, PETA urges retirement home in Cockeysville," June 27). However, there is nothing wrong with having people-animal interactions, provided the animals are provided with a suitable environment.

If you adopt a child, you are responsible for providing a suitable environment. The same reasoning applies to "adopted" animals who live with people.
