The truth about the Paterno scandal

Your recent article about the Joe Paterno sex abuse case missed the mark ("Report by Paterno family rebuts scandal accusations," Feb. 11). Buried on page 8 was the following dismissive remark: "The 238-page review, conducted by former Pennsylvania Gov. and U.S. Attorney General Dick Thornburgh and a team of others ..."

That "team of others" included two highly regarded men who are tops in their fields of child sexual victimization and pedophilia: Former FBI agent Jim Clemente and Dr. Ed Berlin, founder of The Johns Hopkins Sexual Disorders Clinic.

By dismissing the work commissioned by the Paterno family, you are complicit in allowing further harm to children by not sharing the critically important information included in this report, particularly Mr. Clemente's "Education Guide to the Identification and Prevention of Child Sexual Victimization."

Anyone who takes the time to read this report and watch the video prepared by Mr. Clemente on http://www.paterno.com will be shocked by the methods used by "nice-guy acquaintance" predators. The materials show how to recognize the red flags for child sexual abuse as well as offer recommendations on how to protect your children by educating them about the dangers.
