Perhaps the Baltimore Orioles mantra leading up to the coming season could be, "Gamboa and Clark, and we're still in the dark" ("Orioles re-sign right-handers Eddie Gamboa and Zach Clark to minor league deals," Jan. 7).

Both pitchers Eddie Gamboa and Zach Clark, who re-signed with the O's, were converted to knuckleballers last season. When I hear the expression "converted to knuckleballers," my mind automatically registers a reclamation project alert. I believe the legacy of pitchers Warren Spahn and Johnny Sain ("Spahn and Sain, and pray for rain") are safe for the immediate future.

The Orioles' carnival of an off-season feels like they are attempting to assemble an interstellar space machine while foraging through a Popular Mechanics dumpster.

What's next? Renaming the team the "Baltimore Scrapyard Mutts?"
