Let's root, root, root for the losers

Let's face it, the Orioles are losers. You know it, I know it, they know it. Certainly, their opponents know it. It's just a fact.

So let's stop whining about their losing record, poor management and lack of focus and get out there and support our beloved losers. Call your friends and go out to the park and watch the Orioles lose. Cheer when they commit an error. Applaud when they blow a three-run lead in the ninth. Jump up and down when they get swept by the Yankees.

Losing isn't so bad, particularly when your mouth is full of overpriced beer and stadium nachos. Don't deny your children their God-given birthright to see the Orioles lose. Say it with pride, Baltimore: We stink!

Nick Markakis will be sorely missed here in Baltimore where he has "owned" right field at Camden Yards ("Markakis a class act," Dec. 11). He exudes top-shelf class. What we have learned over the years is that as a Baltimore Oriole, he is a great ball player. As a person, he stands on rarefied...

After reading the two-page advertisement placed by Nick Markakis in The Sun, I am once again impressed with Nick ("This isn't a 'goodbye,' Nick Markakis says in two-page advertisement," Dec. 10). He is someone that our children can look up to, not just as a baseball player but as a man. The...

    More Orioles coverage, please

I find it very disappointing that The Sun's sportswriters do not seem to find anything to write about the Orioles. Even when the Ravens season is over, it seems that every day in the paper there is at least one article, big or small, about the Ravens. Once the Orioles season was over, I find...

What a great editorial ("Somewhere the sun is shining," Oct. 16). It almost helps. But, alas, it also reminds me of how much we lost when we lost Bart Giamatti.

Just six months to Opening Day

After the red-hot Kansas City Royals completed a four-game sweep of the Orioles in the American League Championship Series, I'm still flaunting my team colors. For the first time in my life I can say I'm proud to be an Orioles fan ("There's no joy in Baltimore," Oct. 16).

I have read that baseball's new administration is thinking of reducing the strike zone to "improve" the game. The key word here is "improve."

Have to really respect our Baltimore Orioles for their conduct on and off the field and how there was no trash talk from our clubhouse ("Everything keeps coming up Royal blue," Oct. 15). The team overcame some personnel changes to give us fans an exciting baseball season.
