We taxpayers should be so very proud of our state leaders as evidenced by the increasingly frequent national attention given to the ineptitude of the Maryland General Assembly. Most recently, The Wall Street Journal highlights Gov.Martin O'Malley as the king of progressive taxation.

Last week, the legislature and the governor socked a big tax increase on the middle class workers in the state in order to support a $700 million increase in the annual budget. This brings annual state spending to $35 billion — up from $28 billion in 2007. I wonder if any of your readers have increased their spending by 25 percent during the past four years?

With one more "special" legislative session planned in July, I wonder if Mr. O'Malley has his sights on overtaking California as the most taxed state in the nation!
