Hamas will never accept Israel's right to exist [Letter]

Hamas

Commentator Caroline Poplin claims that Israel will have to make concessions to Hamas to prevent a resumption of the rockets ("A costly victory for Israel," Aug. 7).

However, anyone knowledgeable about Hamas knows that won't work. Hamas is implacably dedicated to the annihilation of Israel and will continue its attacks despite temporary interruptions.

The only way to "prevent resumption of the rockets" is to get rid of Hamas — or at least remove it from power in Gaza and replace it with a government that will live peacefully with Israel.

After all the suffering they've endured, I bet Gaza residents would be happy to see Hamas go. Maybe the U.S. should be focusing on that goal instead of trying to get a cease-fire.
