I am writing to express my concern over the threat of further government restrictions on our Second Amendment rights. The Second Amendment is very clear and straightforward, and it makes no mention of licensing or permit restrictions.
The Obama administration believes government control is the way to fix everything. That's wrong. The state of our economy and our huge budget deficit are examples of that. The proposed assault weapon ban, like the one before it, will do nothing to prevent gun violence. The root of gun violence lies in the people carrying out such crimes, not in the methods they use. The best solution is empowering citizens to protect themselves from such people. Restrictions on firearms ownership will only serve to empower criminals.
At a time when crime is rampant and people are becoming desperate due to the struggling economy, it is imperative that state and local governments support the people's right to defend themselves from would-be attackers. The police have nothing to fear from law-abiding citizens with guns.
