We know that a cigar is generally just a cigar, but the same cannot be said about a gun. For some, a gun is a fetish item protected by the Second Amendment while for others it is simply an extension of manhood. A gun is a lethal weapon which many citizens own and use in a responsible manner.
Does the NRA really wish to arm dangerous and erratic people? One would think that the NRA would support responsible gun control legislation. Why would anyone be afraid of gun registration? Clearly, this is the only way to control the proliferation of dangerous weapons. We register guns and children must be registered for school after providing proof of required vaccinations. These are elementary requirements imposed on citizens in civilized countries.
I believe the NRA has finally been marginalized and when the voters elect senators and representatives in the future, this issue will be central to the debate. Why should we be more concerned about the profits of gun manufacturers and gun retailers than we are about public safety? The NRA clearly has a very narrow vision which excludes the majority of citizens. I believe that gun owners who are really interested in their own welfare as well as that of their fellow citizens should form their own lobbying group which would take on the real craziness of the NRA. It really is time for some men to part with their toys or at least accept the fact there must be reasonable gun control in order to protect their families and their fellow citizens.
