What's wrong with today's GOP?

Former Gov. Ehrlich's column illustrates clearly what is wrong with today's GOP ("No, Mr. President, nobody else 'made that happen,'" July 23).

Mr. Ehrlich rightly acknowledges that "no person achieves success in a given field or endeavor without some help from the greater society." But then he promotes the old Horatio Alger myth, contradicting his earlier acknowledgment.

Ideology trumps facts. When the Theodore McKeldin and Mac Matthias Republicans return, I'll be glad to vote for them. Until then, this lifelong Republican will be voting for Democrats only.

I'm often perplexed by the content in Robert L. Ehrlich Jr.'s column and wonder if he is free from fact-checking because his words appear on the op-ed page. One particular paragraph in his column, "American values under Obama" (Nov. 2), left me even more confused than usual.

OK, I can't help myself. Over the past three years, I have written at least a dozen columns critical of Obamacare (a.k.a. The "Affordable Care Act") in this space and devoted an entire chapter to the topic in my book "America: Hope for Change."
