Ehrlich Jr.proposed bringing slots to Maryland during his term in office, his most vocal critic wasMartin O'Malley, who called it the Devil's work because it would be a tax on the poor that encouraged them to try to win their way out of poverty. Mr. O'Malley and his allies made sure the issue never came to a vote.
