Susan Reimer reports that Emily Post and Miss Manners say that whoever is closest to the elevator door exits first, whether it's a man or a woman ("Elevator etiquette dropping fast," May 16). But these manner mavens are out of touch, as most males in elevators are still gentlemen and step aside to let ladies out first. (And they open doors, too.) It's not sexist and it's not backward but a small stab at beating back the increasingly crass and crude world beyond that little cab.
