Last Monday night at midnight, the Maryland General Assembly recessed without having passed a balanced budget for the next fiscal year. So now, either a special session must be called, certainly at some expense to the Maryland taxpayer, or a "doomsday" budget will be enacted automatically, certainly not something Maryland citizens want or need!
Why can't lawmakers do the jobs they are elected to do?
Why can't they pass balanced budgets?
Why can't they complete their work on time?
What happened to compromise and bipartisanship?
In less than nine months the U.S. will face another major budget crisis. Is Congress doing anything about it? No, they are not! They are waiting for a lame duck sessions to do what they don't have the courage, strength or political will to do now. And now, Maryland has joined their ranks.
Do your jobs, delegates and senators! Stop thinking that more casinos will solve the state's tough budget problems!
Do your jobs, Congress, and stop thinking that the 2012 election will make everything better!
Remember, we voted you in. We can vote you out just as easily! Oh, I forgot — the last time we did that, we got Newt Gingrich!
