With Obama in office, Democrats have lost their taste for dissent [Letter]

"Dissent is the highest form of patriotism." During George W. Bush's term that sentiment was often seen, usually with a statement of support for Democratic Party candidates. Now that President Barack Obama is in office, those who dissent are vilified and bullied by representatives of the party who espoused dissent a few years before. When opposition to the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) was voiced, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid called the dissenters "anarchists," and Sen. Barbara Boxer likened them to those who commit domestic abuse. Reps. Nancy Pelosi and Steve Cohen called them "unpatriotic" and "domestic enemies."

I understand that hardball is played in Washington politics, but the Democrats want it both ways. That sort of rhetoric doesn't invite intelligent discussion about issues, and the problems with the Affordable Care Act desperately need a reasoned remedy. Out of the millions who have had their insurance canceled, there are undoubtedly families who are facing major health problems. What do they do once the cancellation takes effect? They need a real fix, not the president's political fix, which shifts the blame to the insurance companies.

The Democrats have often used another saying, and it applies now to the situation that the administration has created: "If you're not outraged, you're not paying attention."

  • An incomplete report on payments to doctors from drug companies [Letter]

It actually doesn't do much good to head up an article about payments to doctors by telling readers that a doctor invented a great new device and the company sent him a check for royalties ("Payments to doctors from drug companies, device makers revealed," Oct. 4).

    Sun's stupidity is showing

You have published several articles recently in support of Obamacare but have chosen to ignore the news of how this hoax was enacted through deception, fraud, misrepresentation of material facts and outright lies ("Who are you calling stupid?" Nov. 14)!
