Trump is the monster the GOP created

Years of lies and fear-mongering made Trump's rise possible.

I completely agree with your editorial that "the magnitude and the frequency of [Donald] Trump's lies are off the charts" ("Trump's inherent dishonesty," Sept. 19).

It is unbelievable that such a person is running for president of the United States. The Republican Party created this monster with their lies and fear-mongering after 9/11.

Former vice president Dick Cheney lied repeatedly about Iraq and Saddam Hussein's responsibility for 9/11; the entire rationale for the war in Iraq was based on lies.

The fact that former president George W. Bush, Mr. Cheney, former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and others were never held accountable for their lies has led the Republican Party to where it is today.

The GOP's consistent hatred toward President Barack Obama and eight years of obstruction have come back to haunt it.

Mr. Trump may have hijacked the Republican Party, but the party itself laid the groundwork for him to do so.

Unfortunately, the rest of us have to suffer dealing with a psychopath like Mr. Trump who potentially could become our next president.
