Reporter Larry Perl recently wrote that a group of urban farmers at the Ash Street garden has put in a bid to take over two lots and collected signatures for a petition ("Urban farmers object to land sale," June 23).
I live near the garden, and I am not in favor of them getting this land. I would rather have houses built on it. The farmers have not surveyed the neighborhood and asked us how we feel. I think one might be surprised by the number of residents who wish the farmers had never come here.
The 1,200 petition signatures they said they have aren't from people who live here. As a tax-paying citizen I feel as though the community should have been advised way before the farmers were given permission to start gardening here.
