Sen. Ben Cardin's self-serving tripe about sequestration ("Pain of sequestration is real," July 22) doesn't get to the heart of the real issue. Spill out a dollars worth of change representing the federal budget. Seventy cents is what the government receives in revenue. Seventy-five cents represents the last pre-Obama budget. Out of the 25 cents that Mr. Cardin voted to add to the budget, the federal government must stop spending 4 cents. The Defense Department was part of the 75 cents in the previous budgets; we need to cut the services that make up the 25 cents Mr. Cardin added.
