Did Maryland legalize recreational marijuana use when I wasn't paying attention? It's the only explanation for Del. Jon Cardin's rant, "Maryland's lawless sheriffs" (June 17).
Law officers have been selectively enforcing laws since Day 1. Maryland had over 500 auto deaths last year, but the speed limits on her roads are not enforced. At any given time on her major roadways speed limit compliance is lucky to be 5 percent, and this is not a news flash.
Civil disobedience is a weapon used to get bad laws repealed. If we don't speak up, silence is approval. But I note Mr. Cardin is an attorney. Can he state that he has never broken a law? That he has never tried to manipulate laws to get the results he wanted right or wrong (big difference between law and justice, seldom the same)? If Mr. Cardin doesn't live in a glass house, I tip my hat to him. If he does, watch out for the rocks because we are tired of people telling us to do as I tell you not as I do.
