Budget deal is useless [Letter]

Budgets and Budgeting

The latest budget deal is all wrong for America, and it does not solve our fiscal issues one bit ("Senate passes budget deal, focus shifts to spending," Dec. 18). It just kicks the can further down the road.

Cutting veterans retirement benefits as part of "budget savings" is all wrong and just shows how little our politicians in Washington appreciate the sacrifice of our veterans. You do not try to balance the budget on the backs of veterans who sacrificed so much already.

Furthermore, $23 billion in "cuts" over the next 10 years means $2.3 billion per year. That's no solution. It is ridiculous to believe the socialists who control the Democratic Party will ever support and accept any fiscal discipline. Those currently in elected office are not offering solutions by way of sound economic policy.

We must reform our mandatory spending programs. The artificial economy created by printing $85 billion monthly is not the answer. This liberal budget deal is all wrong and does not solve anything.
