A prince or princess in every crib

Thanks to Susan Reimer for her spot-on observation that every parent believes, or should believe, that their own offspring are special and "heirs to boundless opportunity and unconditional support" ("William and Kate aren't the only ones with a prince in their crib," July 23).

The day of the royal birth in Britain coincided with the birthday of my twin daughters in 1971. Though now 42, these women continue to delight and inspire their mother, who forever holds July 22 as the grand turning point of her life.

Indeed, both birth events this week were wondrous and exciting, as are those celebrated every day by mothers and fathers everywhere. The British royals do not hold an exclusive right to legacy; that is a human family privilege the world over.
