Mr. O'Malley, tear down that Hilton

Since it opened 21 years ago, I, like most locals, have grown enamored of Oriole Park at Camden Yards. It is a gem we are extremely proud of.

My only complaint is that white elephant monstrosity, the financially beleaguered, city-funded Hilton Baltimore hotel, that lurks beyond left field ("Hilton again loses millions," June 27). In addition to being a visual migraine, the placement of the hotel absolutely destroys what used to be an aesthetically pleasing view in that direction.

It is so very vanilla and nondescript. The hotel looks as if it were erected in two weeks. Needless to say, I despise it.

We can all thank former Baltimore City Mayor Martin O'Malley for signing off on the hotel's construction. Now, with sagging sales, it's $65 million in the red. Ouch.

If the white elephant hotel were to be part of his legacy, I would have to say this is a very large black eye for the governor. I wonder if he has any local demolition companies on his speed dial?
